After China’s “30, 60” carbon emission target has been proposed, the country will accelerate the transformation of energy generation to clean and low carbon supply with greater determination and strength. Development of offshore wind power will become an important strategic support for the transformation of China’s energy mix. As offshore wind power enjoys the characteristics of large scale and has high annual output rates, its active development definitely plays a significant role in reducing carbon emissions providing an effective means to achieve China`s carbon neutrality goal.
But starting in 2022, central finance will no longer subsidize new offshore wind projects. Local governments’ willingness to shoulder subsidies is unclear, putting pressure onChina’s fledgling offshore wind power sector, which has only just entered the commercialization stage. Furthermore, risks of offshore wind power generation are far more complex than those of onshore wind power generation, increasing technicality of projects. In the future, how to rely on the specific and operable policies of the government to ensure and promote stable development of the industry, how to drive development through large-scale units, application of specialized construction ships and equipment, and ever increasing use of digital technology means; those are the hot spots of this renewable energy market.
“2021 China offshore wind construction and operation excellence summit” will be held in Shanghai from June 17 to 18, 2021. It will gather well-known power groups, energy investors, offshore wind power plants, engine manufacturers and advanced material and equipment suppliers from home and abroad to discuss the development prospect of domestic offshore wind power, and exchange on the latest materials and technology applications of offshore wind power. The summit will as well provide an industry platform where partnerships can be explored and forged.
